With the under-supply issues in the Austin-area housing market, new construction has taken on huge importance in recent years. Home builders haven’t been able to really catch up, but they have helped tremendously, especially in the suburbs. New development in the city of Austin, and particularly in the urban core, is a very different challenge than in surrounding areas largely due to regulatory and permitting issues, but the 10% increase in the metro area mentioned in the article is certainly needed and will almost be sold as quickly as it can be built next year.
