Today is the first day of early voting in Texas, leading to the 2024 primary elections on May 5. Primaries are especially important in Texas because they are so early compared to many other states. It’s time to make your voice heard.
Texas REALTORS® is committed to advocating for a strong real estate industry, advancing a culture of continued learning, and staying ahead of issues concerning members and their clients. That mission works to promote and defend private property rights, land use policies that allow adequate housing supply and diversity, property tax policies that serve owners of real property and many other related issues. We pride ourselves on being “purple,” not “red” or “blue.” We are driven by policies, not politics
With that in mind, see TexasRealtorsSupport.com for our endorsed candidates statewide in this primary election cycle. Click the Look Up Tool at the top of the page to enter your address and the candidates that will appear on your ballot. You can also check the Hot List to see the most competitive races in the state.
You may notice more Republicans than Democrats on the site. As mentioned above, that is not a sign of party bias. It is simply an indication of how many Republican incumbents are opposed in primaries this year. In many cases, that is because of major issues that arose months ago. Specifically, Governor Abbott has targeted some representatives who voted against his school choice initiatives during the last legislative session and mulitple special sessions. Also, Attorney General Paxton has targeted representatives who voted to impeach him during the last session. Those controversies have drawn very well-funded and shrill opposition campaigns.
In Texas and nationally, elections this year may well be more consequential than we have seen for many years. Please make to time to be heard, either during early voting February 20 through March 1, or on election day March 5.
